6 Days Kilimanjaro, Marangu hike
This 6 days Kilimanjaro climbing safari using the Marangu route is one of the most preferred climbing safaris. Marangu is regarded as the easiest route to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Day 01:
Kilimanjaro International airport.
Kilimanjaro international airport is the nearest international airport and gateway to Mount Kilimanjaro. Depending on your time of arrival, our tour guide shall meet you at Kilimanjaro international airport and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. At the hotel, you have a simple briefing from the guide about your expectations and what to carry-ensure that you carry items such a climbing gear and others. Those that have altitude sickness, different advice shall be given. Later, you will spend the rest the day at the hotel while imagining how your journey is going to be.
Day 02:
Kilimanjaro, Moshi- Marangu gate- Mandara hut
Early in the morning after breakfast, you will meet the guide and set off your journey to Mount Kilimanjaro national park towards the Marangu gate. At the gate, you will meet the porters, rangers, cooks who shall help you during your hiking. After registering and fulfilling all the simple necessary park entrance obligations, you will start ascending to Mandara hut. This is an entertaining and educative journey- as you hike past the rainforest- you will occasionally meet wildlife and park species that inhabit within the park. After 3- hours of walking, you shall finally arrive at the Mandara hut at around 3pm. Mandara hut is at 2720m above sea level. You will rest and start contemplating about the next day.
Day 03:
Kilimanjaro, Mandara hut- Horombo hut.
After a tasty breakfast by our experienced cooks, you shall continue your journey to Horombo huts. You will start by ascending through the moorlands which mainly contain shrubs and giant heathers. You will leave behind the rainforest part of the mountain. This climb offers magnificent views of Mazembe and Kibo. During the hike, you have a stopover for relaxation and a lunch break before continuing the hike to Horombo Hut. Upon arrival, you will start to feel the effects of altitude; rest and enjoy the rest of day.
Day 04:
Kilimanjaro, Horombo hut- Kibo hut.
The reason to have a cook during your hiking is to help prepare the meals. After a tasty breakfast from our cooks, you will start hiking past scrubby vegetation and sandy soil uncultivated land until the saddle that connects Kibo to Mawenzi- this is where you will have a stopover for lunch and relaxation before continuing to Kibo. Upon arrival in Kibo, you will start making the necessary preparations to reach the summit the next day. Kibo hut has good accommodation facilities.
Day 05:
Kilimanjaro, Kibo hut – Uhuru peak (5895m)- Horombo hut.
Get ready to reach the summit as this is the day to climb until Uhuru peak. At an elevation of 5895m, Uhuru peak is the highest peak in Africa and one of the highest in the world. Before you start hiking, ensure that you have the necessary tools- it is always advisable to have a headlamp and warm climbing gear. Uhuru peak is snow- Capped-It is extremely cold and this one of the reasons you need clear planning to be able to reach the summit. The ascent to the peak is usually done at night in order to reach the summit before sunrise. After simple breakfast, you will start hiking until Gillman’s point which is located at the crater rim at an altitude of 5861m. It is normally a 2 hours hike from the Gillman’s point to the summit. Upon arrival at the summit, Uhuru peak, you will take some time taking photos and enjoying wonderful views of distant places and other parts of the mountains. After sunrise, you will start descending to Kibo hut for lunch before continuing to Horombo hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 06:
Kilimanjaro, Horombo hut- Moshi.
Early in the morning after a wonderful breakfast, you will descend until the park gate, Marangu gate, to check out of the park. You will say goodbye to the cooks, porters and rangers and later set off for Moshi to your desired hotel for the much-needed deep sleep and relaxation before flying back home the next day.
