Machame route
This Machame route Mount Kilimanjaro climbing safari offers some of the best acclimatization opportunities. The safari is full of descends and ascends which is great for acclimatization. It is always recommended to be physically healthy before you attempt the summit hike. Our company has over the years achieved a high success rate of reaching the summit. Day 1:
Kilimanjaro International airport.
Airport pickup is always possible if you do any safari from us. However, not every tourist uses air transportation, some use road transportation especially those coming from the neighboring countries; we are ready to pick you from any location within Tanzania. If you are flying to Kilimanjaro International airport, our tour guide shall be waiting to pick you up and transfer you to Moshi where you will check in your hotel.
Day 2:
Moshi- Machame gate- Machame camp.
Early after breakfast, our tour guide shall pick you up at the hotel and transfer you to the Machame gate of Mount Kilimanjaro national park for clearance before starting your journey. At the Machame gate, you will meet the rest of the climbing crew that is Porters, cooks, and rangers. The crew provides the necessary help to ensure that you reach the summit. For example, there are no hotels in Mount Kilimanjaro and as a human, you will always feel hungry; this is why cooks are necessary-they cook food during your journey. You will start the hike past the forested area of the park, expect to spot some species of wildlife that inhabit within the park such as blue monkeys, colobus monkeys, Honey Badgers and others. After 6-7 hours of hiking, you shall finally arrive at Machame camp
Day 3:
Machame camp - Shira 2 camp.
Shira 2 camp is considered as the meeting point for climbers that use the shira, Lemosho and Machame route. Get ready to meet some new faces. Early in the morning, you shall hike for few hours to shira 2 camp. If you are fortunate enough, you will have a great day under the company of new people that you will meet along the way. Get ready to interact.
Day 4:
Shira 2 camp – Barranco Camp.
This day is mixed with ascents and descents. Early in the morning after breakfast, you shall continue ascending to lava tower. The lava tower is about 4600m. Upon reaching the tower, you shall have a break, relax your body, take some lunch and later, continue with the rest of the day by descending down to the Barranco Camp. The descent down to Barranco camp offers the much-needed acclimatization. You will spend the rest of the day while enjoying the magnificent views around Barranco camp.
Day 5:
Barranco Camp- Barafu Camp.
After a deserved night at Barranco camp, you will continue hiking until Karanga where you shall stopover for lunch and relaxation. Later, you shall continue to Barafu camp. Reaching the Barafu camp gets you closer to the summit. At this point, it is evident that this is the last day of your safari. Since this is the last day before hiking to the summit, you will make all the necessary efforts to ensure that you are ready for the summit hike- you will prepare the headlamp, a warm camping gear and others that you shall need. You shall sleep early in order to wake up at 1am.
Day 6:
Barafu Camp- Uhuru - Mweka camp.
Like all other safaris that use the Lemosho and shira routes, during this day you shall wake up early in the morning at around 1am and you will start hiking to the summit after breakfast until the Stella point. The Stella point is located at an altitude of 5789m.Stella point is easily noticeable. There is a signpost that indicates that you are now at Stella point. At Stella point, you shall have some light lunch and relaxation and later, you will continue climbing for more 2 hours to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. It is a climbers dream to reach this point and you will notice by the jubilation that follows when climbers reach the summit. You will take as many photos as you wish, enjoy the magnificent views and later, start your journey back to Mweka camp.
Day 7:
Mweka Camp- Mweka gate- Moshi
During this day, you shall return to Moshi. Early in the morning after breakfast, you will continue descending until the Mweka gate. At the gate, you will say goodbye to the porters, cooks and rangers. Later, you will depart for Moshi after having received your climbing certificate that truly testifies that you climbed until the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
