Shira Route
This 7 days shira route safari starts at a slightly higher altitude compared to other routes. The route offers the best experience for experienced climbers. It is possible to feel altitude related sickness during the first day of this tour. Shira route and Lemosho route are almost identical only that the shira route starts a higher altitude. Our wonderful tour guides shall be ready to give you the best climbing advice and with the best experience from our team, we guarantee the greatest unforgettable climbing journey. After the climb, you could decide to fly back home or extend your safari to include other destinations in Tanzania.
Day 1:
Kilimanjaro International airport.
Since most of our clients use Kilimanjaro International airport, our tour guide/company representative shall pick you up from the airport and transfer you to a hotel in Moshi. We are always flexible enough to cater for any pick up point, just let us know about your program and we shall make all the necessary arrangements.
Day 2:
Moshi – Londorossi gate & To Shira Camp
Early in the morning after breakfast, you will be driven to the western part of Mount Kilimanjaro national park until Londorossi gate. At the park entrance, you shall continue with the registration and later, you will start your hike under the company of cooks, porters and rangers. You will start ascending past farmland and vegetation as well as a shrub forest. Like any climbing route in Mount Kilimanjaro, this is normally the perfect time to spot some of the wildlife species and birds that inhabit this wonderful park. You will continue ascending past Mti Mkubwa (2830m) until Shira 1 camp where you shall spend the night.
Day 03:
Simba camp – shira camp 2
To aid in acclimatization, you will take this refreshing journey to the shira camp 2. After breakfast, you shall ascend to the shira cathedral and later continue to shira 2 camp where you shall relax, have dinner and take a deep relaxing sleep. At the camp, you shall have panoramic views of moorlands.
Day 04:
Moir hut camp.
After breakfast, you shall take a steady climb to Moir hut camp. This is usually a challenging and rewarding experience-when you reach the camp, you shall have scenic views that shall make all your efforts to reach this point worth. You shall dine and overnight at the camp.
Day 05:
Moir hut camp- Barranco Camp.
It is always better to have enough sleep during the hiking-it is preferred to go to bed a bit early. Early in the morning after breakfast, you shall start another climbing challenging to the lava tower. This ascent to the lava tower is a steady climb until 4550m. At this point, you shall take a break, have lunch and later, continue hiking to the bottom of the Barranco valley at Barranco camp to spend the rest of the night.
Day 06:
Barranco Camp – Barafu Camp.
Our company is great at staff training, our cooks usually go through routine training to ensure that they know how to prepare the best African and continental dishes. Early in the morning after a wonderful breakfast prepared by our cooks, you shall start descending to Karanga. At Karanga, you shall repose and have lunch before hiking to Barafu camp. At Barafu camp, you shall the best relaxing moment and make all the necessary preparation to ensure that you finally reach the summit. Ensure that you go to bed early as you shall sleep for few hours.
Day 07:
Barafu Camp – Uhuru peak - Mweka camp.
It is highly possible to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Uhuru peak, if you go by our guidelines; the basic is to ensure that you have enough sleep, headlamp and a warm climbing gear. After a snack breakfast at around 1am, you will start your journey to the summit. You will make a stop at Stella Point which is at 5739m. After relaxing for some time, you will continue ascending for another 2 hours to the summit. Reaching the summit is the ultimate goal of any climber. Jubilation is evident for every climber that reaches the summit; at the summit, you shall have the best sightseeing opportunities- you will relax some time at the roof of Africa and later, descend to Mweka camp.
Day 08:
Mweka camp - Mweka gate- Moshi
Early in the morning after breakfast, you shall descend to the park gate of Mweka where you shall receive your climbing certificate. This is the last time you could ever see the cooks, porters, and rangers; you will say goodbye to all of them and later, transfer to Moshi at your hotel.
