Five days on the ground for the river crossings — timed to when the herds are actually in the Mara, not just a generic "safari season."
Most Kenya safaris treat the migration as a bonus if it happens to be nearby. This one is built the other way round — the dates are chosen first, based on where the herds are likely to be, and the itinerary follows from there. Five days is enough to give a crossing more than one chance to happen without turning the trip into a two-week commitment.
We keep the pace deliberately unhurried once you’re in the Mara — no rushing between parks, no long transfer days eating into game-viewing time. Every day is spent in and around the conservancies where crossings are most likely, with a guide who’s tracking herd movement daily, not working from a seasonal guess.
This is a Kenya-only itinerary. If you’d rather see the migration from both sides of the border, the Great Migration Circuit covers the same event across a longer, two-country route.
Why five days, and why this particular stretch of the Mara.
Dates are set around where the herds actually are, tracked week to week rather than booked on a generic "migration season" guess.
No shared game drives — your guide chooses the crossing point based on that week's movement.
A different vantage point on the same herds, with a bush breakfast on landing.
The full five days stay in the same part of the Mara, so no time is lost moving between properties.
A starting shape: pace, order and length of each stage are all adjustable.
A short flight from Nairobi puts you in the Mara by late morning, with time to settle in before heading out for an afternoon game drive the same day
A tented camp on the Mara River · canvas suites raised above the water, with resident hippos audible after dark.
Time spent at the crossing points your guide has been tracking that week, with the flexibility to move if the herds shift position
A tented camp on the Mara River · the same camp as the night before
An optional dawn balloon flight over the plains and the herds below, finished with a bush breakfast on landing — or another full day at ground level.
tented camp on the Mara River · the same camp as the night before
A second full day of tracking, often in a different part of the reserve from Day 2 as the herds continue moving.
A tented camp on the Mara River · the same camp as the night before
A final morning game drive, then a short flight back to Nairobi in time for onward connections
Based on past travellers' sightings, here's roughly what to expect on this specific route.
One camp for the full five days, on the Mara River, positioned for quick access to the main crossing points
This trip can be tailored to add an extra day if your dates allow, swap in a different conservancy for more exclusive access, or extend into a Great Migration Circuit if you decide partway through planning that you'd rather see both sides of the border.
With five days as the starting point, your specialist will adjust the pace and camp once we know your exact dates

No operator can guarantee a specific crossing — the herds move on their own timeline. July through October gives the strongest odds, and your guide adjusts daily based on where the herds actually are that week
This trip stays in Kenya only and runs for five days in one camp. The Great Migration Circuit is ten days, crosses into Tanzania, and adds the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater
Late July through September typically sees the most crossing activity in the Mara, though exact timing shifts year to year — worth asking when you enquire, since we track this closely each season.
Yes — it’s a common request once people are mid-planning. See the Great Migration Circuit for the combined version, or ask your specialist to extend this itinerary directly.
